Bay Stage:  Friday, July 21, 2006, 7:30pm

www.hyimvibe.com

“Growing up on a commune in the late ‘70s was an amazing and unusual childhood experience,” says Hyim, the “hippie child who grew up on hip-hop,” California Music Awards Nominee, “eclectic maestro,” critically acclaimed producer, pianist and performer.  He is a singer-songwriter.  He is the next generation’s music “fusionisto,” following in the footsteps of Peter Gabriel, Michael Franti, Manu Chao, and Paul Simon.  Yes, this San Francisco native flower-child was raised in the Oakland public schools and went on to learn classical guitar in New Zealand, play piano since he was three, study sitar in India, Turkish rhythms, Persian poetry, and the Torah, as well as produce and write award winning ballads, study dance in Cuba, and whom critics say has “the voice of a young Sting.”  Hyim has traveled and studied music throughout the globe and blends the rhythms of the world as chariots for his brilliant songs.  During his shows, his live percussion loops coupled with his storytelling - from the tale of his dog going to doggy jail to searing political sensual love stories - are all capped by his sheer undeniable multi-instrumental talent and spirit.

"....and that talented Hyim!! It is my pleasure to have a little part in spreading his positive music... may you be well and successful!! L'Hyim!! Wishing you all good things!" - Annalisa KFOG Midday Host

"Hyim is a spell-binding and formidable talent." - Joel Selvin, San Francisco Chronicle

Kajukenbo Self Defense Institute of Vallejo

Bay Stage: 11:30am-12:30pm, 1:30pm-2:30pm & 4:30pm-5:30pm

The Kajukenbo Self-Defense Institute of Vallejo {K.S.D.I. of Vallejo} first opened its doors at 974 Benicia Rd. in Vallejo back in 1968.  They have been open in the same location for over 38 years and the school is the longest running Martial Art school {and likely one of the longest continuously running businesses of any kind}  in Vallejo.  Grand Master Emil Bautista is a 9th degree {red w/silver trim belt in reality} black belt under the Kajukenbo Self-Defense Institute, Inc. which is the organization founded by one of the 5 creators of the Kajukenbo system, Sijo Adriano D. Emperado. The Kajukenbo System began in Hawaii back in the late 1940's and spread from there to California and all across the United States {there are schools in almost every state in the Union}, then to Canada, South America, Europe, Asia and some of the Arab countries.

The Kajukenbo system is based on 5 different styles of martial arts; Karate, Judo/Jui-Jitsu, Kenpo and Boxing {for Chinese Gung Fu and American boxing} and was started back in the late 1940's in Hawaii with a decidedly Chinese empty-hand flair.

Our school in Vallejo has put out some of the best fighting black belts in the California and U.S. tournament circuit as well as self-defense technicians and Kata {forms} competitors.  Grand Master Bautista has been featured in Inside Kung Fu and Black Belt Magazines and has promoted well over 40 black belts from all walks life. We not only focus on self-defense but also loyalty, self-confidence and respect, qualities which will last throughout their lives.

Luz Rios

Bay Stage: 7:30pm-10:30pm

www.lcrmusic.com

Just like a bird, this woman was born to sing.  A musical note could describe her, however, it is her passionate dedication to vocalization, which enhances her qualities.  Naturally modest, Luz Rios not only poses a privileged voice, but a great capacity to compose.  She’s been called the “Latin Streisand”.  Her new project is dedicated to Mexican Music, of which the three first cuts were recorded in Monterey, Mexico with the famous producer and arranger Gerardo “Quirri” Padilla of Grupo Limite.
